Remain on the scene
When motor vehicle accidents occur, those involved must remain on the scene. Fleeing the scene can result in fines and suspension of your license. In the event of a fatality, fleeing the scene can land you time in jail.
Report the accident
Call 911 and report the accident. Police officers and first responders such as paramedics or firefighters will also arrive if necessary. Calling 911 is important because you or someone else might need medical attention. And you’ll also need a police report if you decide to file an auto accident insurance claim.
You and others in the accident might feel that police involvement isn’t necessary. This might happen if the accident is very minor, and there are no injuries.
