Potential dangers in your morning commute

On Behalf of | Mar 23, 2021 | Car Accidents

Texas highways are awash in vehicles everyday when the rush hour picks up in earnest. Some drivers are running late while others are on time regardless of the morning or evening trip. What this means for many commuters is being caught in the middle of a continually changing environment where some drivers are abiding by the rules of the road and others are not. And, the ones who are not are usually the drivers causing navigation problems.

Excessive speeds

Speeding is a primary contributor in causing many motor vehicle accidents, if not the primary reason they occur. Those who are running behind schedule will commonly exceed the speed limit to some degree, and many break the limit considerably. One particular set of dangerous circumstances is when traveling in construction zones and accident reconstructions. It is important to always reduce speeds and be more observant when in marked highway zones of any type or in the vicinity of rescue vehicles on the highway.

Lane swapping

Another common component of a morning or evening commute is excessive lane swapping, as many drivers in congested traffic will still take chances on being hit even while running at a high rate of speed. And when this driving behavior is coupled with commercial vehicles also using the roadway, the possibly of very serious auto accidents is always present. The best method of avoiding this activity is driving within the speed limit and maintaining a significant distance from all leading vehicles. It is also very important to use signal indicators when actually changing lanes.

Distracted driving

One of the most common issues found in many accident reports is that one or more of the drivers were using their cellphone while the accident occurred. In addition, video devices that are now standard equipment with some automobiles can increase instances of distracted driving as well. And of course, there are also the more traditional forms of distraction such as eating and drinking anything while driving or talking to other passengers in the vehicle.
