Dogs can be man’s best friends, but they can also cause tremendous harm. When dogs in Texas bite, some breeds are especially harmful. The following dog breeds are most likely to cause serious bite injuries.
Pit bulls
Statistically, pit bulls are one of the most dangerous breeds. While some pit bulls are big teddy bears, others are not, and even sweet pit bulls can behave unpredictably.
These dogs; bites are so dangerous because pit bulls were originally bred for their extremely powerful jaws. Pit bulls also have an instinct to keep their jaws clamped shut and shake their victims. Many lawyers with experience in personal injury law are all too familiar with the sad results of pit bull bites.
German shepherds
German shepherds aren’t as naturally aggressive as pit bulls. However, their jaws are powerful. These dogs tend to be overly protective of their owners, which means German shepherds are especially risky to strangers.
Terriers
Though terriers are small, they have an aggressive streak. Their bites are far less likely to cause damage when compared to the bites of larger dogs. The problem is that although terrier bites might be less dangerous, these breeds bite pretty often. People are also less likely to report bites from small dogs. A delay in reporting or seeking medical care leaves more time for an infection to set in.
Rottweilers
Rottweilers can bite with a force of around 300 pounds. That force is significantly higher than the pressure in a pit bull bite. On the other hand, rottweilers don’t have a pit bull’s “hold and shake” instinct.
Staying safe
Do your best not to antagonize dogs. If you have children, supervise their interactions with animals. Unfortunately, you can’t always prevent canine aggression. If you’ve sustained dog bite injuries, seek medical care right away. You may be eligible to file a personal injury lawsuit against the dog’s owner to pay for your medical expenses.
