What to do after being harmed by medical malpractice

On Behalf of | Feb 15, 2016 | Firm News, Personal Injury

We trust that medical professionals will help not hurt us, but this isn’t always the case. Medical professionals are only human, and they make mistakes.

Some mistakes are innocent and don’t lead to any harm. However, more serious mistakes may result from carelessness or negligence and they can lead to life-altering consequences for patients.

If you or someone you love was harmed because of an error on behalf of a medical professional, you might be entitled to compensation for the damages that you suffered. Contact an experienced attorney right away for advice.

Examples of medical negligence include:

  • errors committed during surgery, including anesthesia errors
  • being misdiagnosed or diagnosed late
  • being given the wrong medicine or wrong dosage
  • errors during labor or delivery resulting in injuries to the mother or child
  • being injured by a dangerous drug or medical product

In many cases, you might not know if what has happened to you is considered medical malpractice, but an experienced attorney can help you figure it out by investigating exactly what happened and if meets the definition of negligence.

In some cases, it turns out that a hospital, clinic, care facility or pharmaceutical company is actually to blame, and not just an individual doctor or nurse.

If medical malpractice was likely the cause of the harm you suffered, then you may be entitled to compensation for damages including medical bills, lost wages, and physical and mental pain and suffering.

In cases that resulted in a patient’s death, family members may be entitled to compensation from a wrongful death claim.

Although there is no way of turning back the hands of time in order to prevent the mistakes from being made, medical malpractice claims are available to attempt to make you whole again.

If nothing else, the damages that are awarded in medical malpractice claims can ease the financial burden that the incident has placed on you and/or your family.
