A recent study has revealed that the most common cause of fatal car accidents in most states is failure to stay in the proper lane, and this is the case in Texas as well. Other common causes of fatal car accidents in Texas include erratic or improper lane changes and police pursuit.
The study by the Auto Insurance Center used as its source material data that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gathered between 2009 and 2013. Other common causes of accidents included reckless or careless driving, failure to yield right of way and overcorrecting. The study examined accidents that were fatal for pedestrians, drivers and passengers.
The statistics also looked at the effect of weather conditions on fatal accidents. In Texas, as in most of the United States, rain is more deadly than snow, as is fog. Sleet also causes more fatal accidents than crosswinds in Texas.
Even in a motor vehicle accident that is not fatal, an individual may suffer serious injuries. The victim may have a long period of recovery, and the injury may be permanent and life-changing.
