According to police, a motorcyclist was killed in West Dallas when he struck another vehicle on April 18. The crash happened around 5:20 p.m.
Authorities said a man was riding his motorcycle east when the driver of a westbound car attempted to turn left to head south, cutting the motorcycle off. The bike smashed into the right side of the car. The motorcyclist, age 42, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A representative of the police department said the car’s driver, age 27, failed to yield the right of way to the motorcycle. Charges had not yet been filed at the time of the report. The accident remained under investigation.
Fatal accidents are often caused by a negligent driver who does not see a motorcyclist and fails to yield the right of way. Motor vehicle drivers are required to remain aware of their surroundings at all times, but distractions or general inattentiveness could cause someone to miss critical information such as an approaching motorcycle. If a police investigation determines that the negligent actions of a driver caused a fatal crash, the decedent’s family may wish to pursue a wrongful death claim against the at-fault driver.
With the help of a lawyer, the family could use accident investigation reports and other evidence to prove the driver is legally responsible for the death of their loved one. While a lawsuit cannot make up for a family’s loss, it could bring financial compensation to pay for funeral expenses, loss of income, loss of companionship and other damages.
