On the morning of Feb. 25, two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision that claimed the life of one driver. The other driver was left uninjured. The accident occurred when a semi-truck heading west struck an eastbound car on Highway 11, approximately seven miles east of Winnsboro. The Department of Public Safety reported that crash happened as the semi-truck rounded a curve on the highway and crossed over into the eastbound lane.
The 42-year-old woman driving the car was killed in the accident. She was pronounced dead at the scene, and her body was taken to the Batey Funeral Home in Winnsboro following the incident. The driver of the semi-truck, a 56-year-old male of Euless, sustained no injuries from the collision, according to reports. Officials with the Department of Public Safety did not say that road conditions contributed to the accident.
It is not uncommon for the occupant of a passenger vehicle to experience catastrophic injuries when involved in an accident with a large vehicle. In many cases, victims may suffer spinal injuries and traumatic brain damage, and some individuals may lose their lives in such crashes.
The death of a loved one may represent both emotional and financial challenges for a victim’s family. In addition to the costs of burial and funeral services, the family might also suffer a loss of income if the victim was employed. However, it may be possible for the family to pursue compensation for those losses if evidence suggests that another party caused the crash. By filing a wrongful death lawsuit, a victim’s family might be able to hold an allegedly at-fault party liable for damages. An attorney who has experience in handling such cases could provide support and representation throughout the proceedings.
