Head-on crash in tunnel kills 1

A highway tunnel in Texas was the scene of a deadly head-on collision on Jan. 17. Two pickup trucks ran directly into each other inside the Washburn Tunnel in Harris County. Authorities claimed that one of the vehicles was outside of its proper lane at the time of the accident. The police also had reason to suspect that one driver was under the influence of alcohol while driving.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a man was driving a GMC Sierra down Federal Road at about 11 p.m. As he passed the 3200 block, he veered into the other lane and struck two vehicles. First, his truck clipped the mirror of a truck, and then the GMC ran head-on into a Ford truck. A passenger in the Ford was taken to a hospital for treatment of a head injury.

Authorities alleged that they smelled alcohol on the breath of the driver of the GMC, and an investigation into the contents of the truck recovered open containers of alcohol. The tunnel had to be closed as emergency crews worked to clear the area.

Car accidents can cause anything from minor to catastrophic injuries to the people involved. If the accident was not their own fault, the injured people have the right to seek compensation from the person who caused the accident. An attorney may be able to help assign liability and draft a civil suit to demand redress. Personal injury can be expressed as an economic loss in an effort to have liable parties pay their fair share of the damage they have done.
