One person was killed and three others were injured in an accident involving two vehicles in Houston on Dec. 24. Police have arrested one of the drivers, who they suspect was drunk and caused the accident, and charged him with intoxicated assault.
According to police, the fatal motor vehicle accident occurred at about 6:00 a.m. on East Crosstimbers when a 31-year-old man, driving a silver Chevrolet Aveo, crashed into a gold Ford van after running a red light. The impact caused the driver of the Chevrolet and his 47-year-old female passenger to be ejected from the vehicle.
The female passenger in the Chevrolet succumbed to her injuries on Dec. 25. Two of the people riding in the Ford were also injured in the incident. They were taken to an area hospital for treatment. Police suspect that the driver of the Chevrolet, who had previously been charged with DWI in March 2010, was intoxicated at the time of impact. They also believe he was driving at a high rate of speed.
In cases similar to this one, an injured victim might choose to file a personal injury claim to collect damages incurred as a result of the accident. Evidence to show neglect on the part of the liable driver might be used in the claim. This can include intoxicated driving, speeding or distracted driving. If the claim is successful, an injured victim could be awarded both economic and non-economic damages, such as the costs of medical care and damages to the vehicles as well as compensation for pain and suffering.
