Head-on crash in tunnel kills 1

A highway tunnel in Texas was the scene of a deadly head-on collision on Jan. 17. Two pickup trucks ran directly into each other inside the Washburn Tunnel in Harris County. Authorities claimed that one of the vehicles was outside of its proper lane at the time of the accident. The police also had reason to suspect that one driver was under the influence of alcohol while driving.

Statistics show that large truck accidents are on the rise

Texas residents may not understand how common large truck accidents occur and how severe the repercussions may be. Accidents of this nature have increased; 2012 showed a 4-percent increase than the former year. An estimated 3,921 individuals died, and 104,000 individuals were injured in truck-related accidents in 2012. During the same year, statistics showed that large trucks totaled 4 percent of all vehicles that were registered in the United States. Trucks of this type are classified as those weighing over 10,000 pounds.

Series of collisions kills Texas woman, injures 3 others

According to reports, a 41-year-old woman from Calvert was killed on Jan. 6 in a car accident that involved four other vehicles, including an 18-wheeler. The collision occurred around 8:45 p.m. on Interstate 45 just two miles south of Buffalo when a Dodge Journey crossed over the median.

1 dead, 3 injured in Texas crash

One person was killed and three others were injured in an accident involving two vehicles in Houston on Dec. 24. Police have arrested one of the drivers, who they suspect was drunk and caused the accident, and charged him with intoxicated assault.
