Multi-vehicle accident leaves 3 dead in Texas

On Behalf of | Dec 18, 2014 | Car Accidents, Firm News

An accident involving three vehicles near Andrews on Dec. 6 resulted in three fatalities and seriously injured another person. The West Texas accident purportedly took place after one of the drivers involved in the event ran a stop sign.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the motor vehicle wreck took place at about 8:33 a.m. at the intersection of FM 1788 and State Highway 176, where a 32-year-old El Paso man driving a southbound Jeep failed to yield at a stop sign. He collided with a westbound Ford F-150 pickup truck with a 43-year-old male driver. Both vehicles were subsequently hit by a semi-truck whose 47-year-old driver could not avoid the collision, reportedly.

The drivers of the Jeep and the pickup truck were pronounced dead at the scene of the incident. So too was a passenger in the pickup truck. The driver of the semi-truck reportedly suffered serious injuries and was taken to Texas-Permian Basin Regional Medical Center, where officials listed him in stable condition.

In cases such as this one, there is a viable possibility that a driver who was neglecting the laws of traffic at the time of the accident will be susceptible to multiple forms of legal action. The family of deceased victims might choose to file a wrongful death claim to recover damages experienced as a result of their loved one’s death. With the guidance of an attorney, the family may use the information gathered in the police investigation to prove that the at-fault driver was negligent. If the claim prevails in civil court, the family of the deceased victim might receive considerable compensation for both economic and non-economic damages.
