5 A&M students injured after collision on Texas highway

On Behalf of | Dec 11, 2014 | Car Accidents, Firm News

According to authorities, five students from Texas A&M University are hospitalized after a head-on crash that occurred on Nov. 30 around 8:30 p.m. The Texas Department of Public Safety said that the students were traveling westbound on Highway 105 when the driver of a pickup truck crossed over the center line and entered the lane the students were traveling in. The pickup driver from Cleveland, Texas, crossed the highway near Goode City Road, and the driver of the other vehicle attempted to swerve in order to miss the truck. The vehicles collided head-on.

The severity of the impact forced paramedics to cut two of the students out of the car, and it took around 30 minutes to remove everyone else from the vehicles. Two people who were involved in the accident suffered critical injuries. A 22-year-old and a 24-year-old were flown to Memorial Hermann Hospital. The driver of the car that was carrying the other students is in stable condition.

Police did not arrest or charge the man who was driving the pickup truck; however, the Department of Public Safety is still investigating the accident and will release the completed report to the office of the Montgomery County district attorney. In a case like this, it is possible that a person who was injured will hire an attorney to further investigate the incident in order to recover medical bills or lost wages due to the extent of their injuries.

Often, an attorney will use information from police reports or from eyewitness accounts in order to build a case against a driver who caused an accident. If the attorney can establish that an outside factor such as distracted driving or bad road conditions contributed to the cause of the accident, they may be able to deem the driver of the pickup responsible for the collision.
