Fiery crash in Texas kills man

A man lost his life in a Texas car fire following a head-on collision near Bayside. The crash happened on Farm-to-Market Road 136 early in the morning on Nov. 15.

The driver of the second vehicle in the crash, a 33-year-old man from Brownsville, claimed that he had been driving north on a curved, inclined road when a Cadillac drifted into his lane. He claimed to have tried to steer around the oncoming vehicle but was unable to complete the maneuver in time. The two vehicles collided head-on, causing the wreckage of both vehicles to burst into flames.

The accident and resulting fire caused catastrophic injuries to the 35-year-old man from Portland behind the wheel of the Cadillac. A Refugio County justice of the peace pronounced him dead at the scene of the accident at about 3:30 a.m. The driver of the truck was able to escape from his crashed vehicle and was transported to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital by emergency personnel. He required surgery for damage to his ankle, but none of his injuries were described as life-threatening.

Those injured due to the recklessness or distractedness of another driver may be able to reclaim damages in civil court. When an individual negligent in the accident has passed away, the case may be pressed against their estate and any relevant organizations. For example, if an individual was operating a company-owned car, their employer might be included in the personal injury lawsuit. The guidance of a lawyer may be of benefit to those who wish to file.
