A Texas man died in a Sept. 18 crash in Newton County, according to authorities. The incident reportedly occurred on Highway 87 at approximately 5:45 a.m.
According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, a Chevrolet passenger vehicle tried to pass a northbound Dodge pickup truck on a stretch of Highway 87 where passing is prohibited. Upon encountering a southbound Ford pickup truck, the driver of the Chevrolet attempted to veer back into the northbound lane but lost control of the vehicle. Consequently, the Chevrolet struck both pickup trucks.
According to officials, a 48-year-old man driving the Ford pickup truck and a male passenger in that vehicle both suffered injuries requiring hospitalization. The nature of their injuries was unclear in the immediate aftermath of the incident. The driver of the Chevrolet, a 21-year-old man, died at the scene of the wreck, officials pronounced. The Dodge pickup truck driver reportedly escaped the accident uninjured.
Car accidents occur for a variety of reasons. However, when a crash can be demonstrably attributed to the actionable behavior of one of the drivers involved in the wreck, then that party might be held accountable not just criminally but also in civil court. Accident victims have the right to seek civil remedies when another party’s negligence or recklessness contributed to their injuries and consequent pecuniary losses.
However, personal injury lawsuits can be both complex and adversarial. That is why accident victims typically seek the counsel and representation of a personal injury lawyer in the wake of the incident. Besides protecting victim’s rights, the lawyer may assemble the resources and evidentiary material necessary to show a civil court that the at-fault driver should be held accountable for the accident and its resulting damages.
