Texas man taken into custody after deadly accident

On Behalf of | Sep 29, 2014 | Drunk Driving Accidents, Firm News

A 39-year-old man was involved in and is in police custody after an accident that left two people dead. The accident took place around 5 p.m. on Sept. 22 on Air Base Road and Pecan Lane in Bellmead. Police say that the victims were a 25-year-old woman and a 38-year-old woman.

A Chevy Malibu being driven by the 25-year-old was hit by the man’s pickup truck after stopping at a stop sign while going west on Pecan Drive. He was driving southbound on Air Base Road in his truck at the time of the collision. The two women were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident while the man suffered only minor injuries. He was treated for those injuries before being booked into McLennan County Jail.

According to court records, he was booked into the jail on Sept. 22 on two counts of intoxication manslaughter. Bond was set at $200,000 for both counts. Police say that the accident is still under investigation, and they don’t know how fast his truck was travelling at the time of the crash. The two women were going through supervisory training at Sanderson Farms when the accident occurred, and a statement from the company said that they would miss them.

When a driver causes death or injury in a drunk driving accident, that driver is often liable for negligence. The family of the victim may decide to pursue a wrongful death case against that driver with the help of a personal injury attorney. This may allow the family to recoup final expenses that the victim may incur. It may also be done to obtain compensation for lost future earnings that may have gone to support children or other dependents.
