A Texas accident involving three vehicles on I-35 has led to the death of an elderly woman and the injury of another. The incident occurred on Aug. 6.
The accident took place near the town of Lytle, a suburb to the south of San Antonio. Authorities believe that the incident began when a 25-year-old Eagle Pass woman operating an SUV in the northbound lanes suffered a tire blowout. Losing control of the vehicle, she traveled across the median and into the southbound lanes, also striking a pole. The SUV then collided with a white van carrying five people and eventually crossed the path of an 18-wheeler. The truck ran into its side, pushing the vehicle from the road.
Interstate 35 southbound was closed for some time after the accident as the debris was cleaned and the injured were taken for treatment. The woman driving the SUV was thrown from the vehicle in the crash. She had to be airlifted to University Hospital for emergency medical assistance along with an 87-year-old woman traveling in the van. The person driving the semi-truck did not claim to have any injuries that required treatment. The van passenger later died in the hospital.
Anyone who has been injured in such an accident may choose to utilize the services of an attorney in order to seek compensation for their wounds and potential harm to their property. If an automobile part is defective and causes a wreck, investigators may question if the part was installed properly or manufactured correctly. If a negligence party can be proven, they may be held liable to damages in a civil suit.
