2 injured, 1 dead in fatal wreck on Texas 71

A fatal two-vehicle accident in Bastrop claimed the life of one individual and left two others injured, according to reports. The crash involving a minivan and a pickup truck took place slightly west of FM 20 on Texas 71 during the morning hours of Oct. 29.

Bastrop officials said the motor vehicle accident happened just before 7 a.m. when a woman driving an eastbound minivan on SH 71 struck a pickup truck at an intersection as the truck driver, who was traveling westbound on SH 71, attempted to make a left-hand turn. Authorities stated that the pickup truck driver was declared dead at the scene, and two occupants of the minivan were treated at a local medical center for injuries suffered in the crash.

A representative with the Bastrop Police Department stated that preliminary investigations into the crash signify that the pickup truck driver may be to blame because he did not yield to approaching traffic. It was not reported if any of the motorists involved were wearing seat belts.

When people suffer serious injuries in an auto wreck caused by a negligent driver, a personal injury claim may be in order. Injured individuals might consider retaining the services of an attorney who may be able to review the case for evidence to support the victim's claims of negligence. If the at-fault driver died from injuries he or she suffered in the crash, it would be necessary for the injured party to file the claim against the deceased person's estate. Such claims might result in the injured party being compensated for accident-related damages including medical expenses and lost earnings.
